The movie “Emergency” is based on the historical events of 1975 to 1977 that were facing major controversial issues and are soon to be released in the theaters. The movie formally decided to premiere on 6th September on the big screen. Due to the misrepresentation of the Sikh communities, the movie was halted by the Central Board of Film Certification.
What was the major controversy “Emergency” faced during its release?
The movie “Emergency” portrays India’s 3rd Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the Emergency period. It is based on the true events in which some sections of the movie are accused of harassing the sikh communities.
The active Sikh communities including Shiromani Akali Dal, The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee demanded to censor the film from release. The committees have accused the movie of falsifying the Sikh community. They have pointed out the section which they consider can trigger the Sikh communities all over the nation.
In Addition to it, some dialogues in the movie are accused of being false and never happened. The movie is based on a sensitive period in the country. The slightest error in the making can affect the nation’s harmony. A dialogue that says, “You want votes, I want Khalistan” by Bhindranwale has never happened.
Keeping this in mind, the High Court of Delhi has taken the matter into their own hands. The final removal of some triggering sections from the movie has been implemented with CBFC. Kangana Ranaut in her interview with media said she has agreed to censor the movie.
She also demanded that the movie be released as soon as possible. Kangana Ranaut says the movie is made on a huge budget. The delay is causing a major loss to the makers. However, after the clearance from the High Court of Delhi and CBFC, she is relieved to announce that the movie is soon to be released in theaters.
