After the terrific response to the trailer and the first song Jaane Tu, the team launched the second song ‘Aaya Re Toofan’ from the much-awaited historical epic ‘Chhava’. Composed and sung by Academy Award winner A.R. Rahman, this electrifying song is a thrilling ode to the coronation of one of India’s most fearless kings. Produced by visionary Dinesh Vijan and Maddock Films, ‘Chhava’ is directed by Laxman Utekar and stars Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna in the powerful roles of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Maharani Yesubai respectively.
The song was launched by Vicky Kaushal and director Laxman Utekar in front of a large group of fans and media in Sambhajinagar. The film is scheduled to be released worldwide on 14 February 2025.
A.R. Rahman and Vaishali Samant have lent their voices and with soulful lyrics by Irshad Kamil and Kshitij, ‘Aaya Re Toofaan’ is replete with Marathi folk elements, traditional instruments and the rhythm of lezim. The song depicts the grandeur of the coronation of a warrior king, whose legacy is carved in fire and steel. Shot on a grand scale with the intensity that shines on the screen, the song was incidentally filmed on the actual coronation date of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
A.R. Rahman said that “Aaya Re Toofaan” is a call of an era; it is a glorious tribute to the unshakable spirit of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. When I decided to compose this song, my idea was to bring out the Maratha roar in its grandest, most electrifying form, resonating in the soul. Every beat, every note, every battle cry in this composition is meant to evoke something primal, powerful, and celebratory – I’m glad it does. Vicky Kaushal said, “Aaya Re Toofaan is a primordial force of nature. Every single person on the set poured their heart, blood and sweat to honour the sacred legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. It was not just a song for us; it was a responsibility, a calling. ‘Aaya Re Toofaan ‘is a huge achievement – the coronation of a historical icon, and to be able to bring it to life is a privilege beyond words. I am proud that the great A.R. Rahman sir has taken this anthem forward with his mesmerizing composition and powerful voice, which invokes an era of unparalleled bravery. Launching it in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, a land that bears his name and the weight of his sacrifice, it seems as if destiny has perfected everything. “
“Irshad Kamil said,” “More than an artistic endeavour, writing the lyrics of ‘Aaya Re Toofaan’ was a pilgrimage through history.” The idea was to write words that crown a warrior’s journey, one that roars through time. With this song, listeners will hear echoes of a time when bravery was paramount, when duty was sacred, and when one man’s unwavering courage became legend. Watching this anthem come alive in A.R. Rahman sir’s brilliant composition, and its grand launch in Sambhajinagar – the very land named after Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj – it is as if history is nodding in approval.
Director Laxman Utekar says, “Aaya Re Toofaan is a resurrection of the spirit of a warrior, a musical glimpse into the indomitable will of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Every element of this A.R. Rahman composition is designed to stir the soul. When we shot this song, there wasn’t a single person on the set who wasn’t overwhelmed with emotions. The moment we completed it, we were humbled, as if we had gone through a chapter of history. For us, this song is about making sure it’s a true and proper tribute. It should sound like war and roar like Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. “
Singer Vaishali Samant said, “I am very grateful to A.R. Rahman sir for trusting me and being a part of this special song with him. ‘Aaya Re Toofaan ‘is an emotion that transcends time and is true to the pride of our land. It is a great honour to sing this song as a tribute to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. This song is the essence of their bravery, sacrifice and their indomitable spirit. I hope this anthem instills a sense of pride and passion in everyone who listens to it.”
