Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi star in the much awaited Stree 2 Trailer. Under direction of Amar Kaushik, this horror-comedy sequel picks up where the first movie left off in 2018 and promises a mix of thrills and laughs.
Once more set in the ghostly hamlet of Chanderi, the new teaser presents a novel threat: a headless monster called Sarkata. Rudra Bhaiya, Pankaj Tripathi’s character, alerts the residents about this fresh threat. Unlike the first stree movie, in which the spirit of Stree tormented the town, this time the people—including Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana—must come together to fight this fresh threat. Tamannaah Bhatia also features in the teaser.
Shraddha Kapoor returns, apparently playing the same part from the first movie. Instead of the previous “O stree kal aana,” (Oh Stree, come tomorrow), the locals now pray to Stree, saying “O stree raksha karna.” Showcasing the lethal head of Sarkata and providing funny one-liners, such Tripathi’s character saying that Sarkata is an influencer aiming to boost his followers in Chanderi, the teaser deftly combines horror and humor.
Released in 2018, Stree was a big box office smash ending on a cliffhanger with Shraddha’s character carrying the ponytail of the evil spirit merging with her own. The urban legend “Nale Ba” from Karnataka, involving a witch kidnapping men at night and leaving just their garments behind, served as inspiration for the original movie’s story.
Playing Jana, Abhishek Banerjee said he was happy to be back in the part. “It gives me great pleasure to return in Stree 2 movie among such gifted actors. Jana is very close to the audience, hence I am resolved to give another outstanding performance. Especially from children, the adoration I get for this role is very delightful,” Banerjee said.
Made by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Stree 2 movie is scheduled for Independence Day, August 15, theatrical release. With Akshay Kumar’s “Khel Khel Mein,” it will fight at the box office.
Shraddha Kapoor posted a fresh Instagram poster ahead of the premiere showing a black woman in black sporting a long ponytail and an enigmatic black cape. Using ghost and monster emojis, Kapoor captioned the photo, “Kaali taaqat se sabki raksha karne woh aa rahi hai bas 2 din mein.” She is visiting to defend everyone from dark powers in just two days. She also taunted, “Aatank jab Chanderi par chhaya, tab sabko ek Hi nara yaad aaya, O Stree Raksha Karna” (When dread swept Chanderi, everyone recalled one slogan, Oh Stree, protect us!).
Beginning with Stree the Maddock Supernatural Universe has grown to feature films such “Roohi,” “Bhediya,” and “Munjya.” With its unusual blend of horror and comedy, Stree 2 movie hopes to carry on this reputation.
