On August 1, 2024, a massive landslide struck the Wayanad area of Kerala, resulting in at least one fatality and extensive damage. Heavy rain in the area triggered landslides in the hills, causing extensive property damage and a few fatalities. The terrible event has had a huge impact on the nearby towns, which is why rescue and relief efforts began right away.

Places like Mundakkai and Chooralmala suffered significant damage, with nearly 350 houses either destroyed or severely damaged. Numerous individuals found themselves stranded due to the erosion of numerous roads and bridges.

At first, the difficult terrain made it harder to rescue people. But army engineers quickly built a new bridge so that people could get to the damaged areas. They used drones, along with other advanced technology, to detect bodies hidden in the mud. We dispatched rescue teams, including skilled divers, to search for survivors. Relief camps provided food, water, and medical care to those forced to leave their homes.

In reaction to the tragedy, actress Nayanthara and her partner, director Vignesh Shivan, said they were with the families of the victims and wanted to show their support. The couple wrote a message to the Kerala Chief Minister’s office and offered to help the victims with money. She gave Rs. 20 lakhs to the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund through her production company, Rowdy Pictures.

Her speech stressed how important it was for everyone to work together and show compassion in order to rebuild and heal the community.
