YouTuber Ranvir Allahbadia’s comment on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show India’s Got Latent has stirred a controversy. From social media to the general public, politicians and film celebrities have expressed anger over the content of this show. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has summoned several celebrities, including Bollywood actor Siddhant Chaturvedi, in connection with the show. In addition, the National Commission for Women has filed a complaint against Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia and social media influencer Apoorva Makhija.

Maharashtra Cyber Cell registers case against 30-40 people

Taking a strong stand against India’s Got Latent Show, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has registered a case against a total of 30 to 40 people. According to media reports, all the people involved from the first episode to the sixth episode of the show have been booked. The process of sending notices has been started and everyone will be called to record statements.

The cloud of danger is also hovering over the guests involved in the old episodes and preparations have been intensified to take action against them. These celebrities include Siddhant Chaturvedi, Urfi Javed, Rakhi Sawant, Deepak Kalal, Dilin Nair aka Raftaar and Tanmay Bhat.

Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial statement

Ranveer Allahbadia, in an episode of India’s Got Latent, made an obscene comment about his parents, after which he faced heavy criticism. People reacted strongly to the statement on social media, after which the video was removed from YouTube.

National Commission for Women

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken cognisance of the matter. Taking serious note of the objectionable and racial remarks made in the show, Chairperson of the Commission and National Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party Vijaya Rahatkar has summoned Ranvir Allabadia, Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija, Jaspreet Singh, Ashish Chanchlani, Tushar Pujari and Saurabh Bothra to appear before NCW office at New Delhi on 17.02.2025 for personal hearing.

As the controversy escalated, Ranveer Allahbadia shared a video on the social media platform and apologized. He admitted that it was his mistake to go on the show and apologised for the vulgar comment. He also said that his intention was not to hurt anyone’s sentiments but his statement was misinterpreted.

People have been reacting on social media about it. While some consider Ranveer’s apology sincere and are talking about giving him a second chance, others feel that an apology for such comments is not enough and there should be strict action.

Questions are also being raised on the show’s host Samay Raina and other guests as to how such content was allowed to air. Going to any extent in the name of entertainment raises many questions on the thinking of the host of the show.

After the strictness of the Maharashtra Cyber Cell and the summons of the National Commission for Women, this case has now taken legal form. It will be interesting to see what the fallout of this controversy is and whether social media influencers and content creators will be impacted after this.

Is it right to hurt someone’s feelings in the name of entertainment and satire? And is it legal to do so? These questions are at the heart of the debate.

The India’s Got Latent controversy has proved that it is extremely important to be responsible and sensitive while presenting content on digital platforms. One should avoid hurting anyone’s feelings in the name of entertainment on YouTube and other social media platforms. This controversy is an example that along with freedom of expression, social responsibility is also associated.

In the coming days, it will be important to see in which direction this matter goes and whether it will lead to any new rules regarding the limits of digital content.
