Kalki 2898 AD Surpasses Gadar 2 with Rs 536.75 Crore Box Office Collection

Starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, the epic sci-fi action picture Kalki 2898 has exceeded the lifetime box office profits of Gadar 2, Sunny Deol’s 2023 hit. Kalki 2898 AD has accumulated a total of about Rs 536.75 crore at the Indian box office in just 14 days after its release, surpassing the domestic revenues of Gadar 2 Rs 525.7 crore.

Over its first week, the movie garnered Rs 414.85 crore. Friday’s collection for the second week is Rs 16.7 crore; Saturday’s is Rs 34.15 crore; Sunday’s is Rs 44.35 crore; Monday’s is Rs 10.4 crore; Tuesday’s is Rs 8.8 crore. As stated by cinema trade web Sacnilk, the movie still made Rs 7.5 crore even if its second Wednesday dropped 14%.

The Telugu and Hindi versions of the movie bring in a large share of the income—Rs 252.1 crore and Rs 229.05 crore respectively. Furthermore earning Rs 31.55 crore, Rs 19.65 crore, and Rs 4.4 crore respectively were the Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam versions of the movie. Globally, Kalki 2898 AD has already topped Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal in international profits with gross collections above Rs 900 crore.

Directed and written by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD tells the tale of Bhairava, a bounty hunter hoping to go big in a dystopian future run under by Supreme Yaskin. Among the star-studded cast are Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Brahmanandam, Vijay Devarakonda, and Mrunal Thakur. Released globally on June 27 in several languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and English, the film has also become the top grossing movie for seasoned performers Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan.

Though it dropped more than 75% on its second Monday, when it made Rs 10.4 crore, the movie has kept consistent single digit collecting. Sacnilk notes that the drop from Tuesday to Wednesday amounted to almost 14%. The Telugu version of the movie first generated most of its income, but its focus now has changed to the Hindi market. The Hindi version gave Rs 4.75 crore on the 14th day, while the Telugu version brought Rs 1.7 crore. Whereas the Telugu version stands at Rs 252.1 crore, the Hindi version has grossed Rs 229.05 crore. On Wednesday the movie noted a Telugu occupancy rate of 18.6% and a Hindi occupancy rate of 13.81%.

Following SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2, which grossed over Rs 1788 crore worldwide in 2017, Kalki 2898 now ranks as the second-biggest hit for its lead actor Prabhas. Reflecting its general popularity and the star power of its cast, the movie keeps doing rather well at the box office.
