Mumbai, December 8, 2025 – The He-Man of Indian cinema, Dharam Singh Deol, better known as the evergreen Dharmendra, turns 90 today, and Bollywood cannot keep calm. From co-stars who shared screen space with him for decades to the new generation that grew up worshipping his larger-than-life persona, social media is flooded with heartfelt tributes for the living legend who redefined machismo, romance, and rustic charm on the silver screen.
The celebrations began at midnight when sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol posted emotional messages along with rare throwback pictures.
Sunny Deol wrote,
“Happy Birthday Papa! You are not just my father, you are my idol, my strength, and the reason I believe in honesty and hard work. 90 years young and still the strongest man I know. Love you forever. #HappyBirthdayDharmendra #HeMan”
Bobby Deol, who has been on a career-high with back-to-back hits, shared a childhood picture hugging his father and captioned it,
“Happy Birthday to the man who taught me that real heroes don’t need capes, they just need a big heart. Love you Papa. You are my world. ❤️ #Dharmendra #90YearsOfHeMan”
The Deol household in Juhu was abuzz with celebrations as family members, including daughters Vijeta and Ajeita, and grandchildren Karan Deol and Rajveer Deol, gathered for a private puja and cake-cutting ceremony early this morning.
But the love wasn’t restricted to family.
Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra’s eternal on-screen friend and the man who gave us the iconic “Yeh dosti” with him in Sholay, posted a classic black-and-white picture from the sets of the 1975 blockbuster:
“Happy Birthday Dharam ji… the one and only GARRRRMI DHARAM… stay blessed, stay healthy, stay the icon you are… love and respect always.”
Hema Malini, who celebrates 43 years of marriage with the legend this year, shared a beautiful picture from their younger days and wrote,
“Wishing my dearest Dharam ji a very Happy 90th Birthday! Your smile still lights up my world. May God bless you with endless health and happiness. With all my love always.”
The younger brigade wasn’t far behind.
Ranveer Singh, who openly calls Dharmendra his ultimate inspiration, posted a video montage of the legend’s iconic dialogues from Sholay, Chupke Chupke, and Dharam Veer with the caption:
“Basanti kehta hoon… aaj dharti pe devta utar aaya hai! Happy Birthday to the ORIGINAL SUPERSTAR @aapkadharam ji. You are pure magic sir! #DharmendraAt90”
Anil Kapoor, who worked with Dharmendra in several films in the 80s and 90s, wrote,
“From the angry young man of the 70s to the funniest man in Chupke Chupke, you have given us every shade of brilliance. Happy 90th Dharam ji! You are timeless.”
Even South superstar Rajinikanth sent his wishes in his trademark style:
“My dear friend Dharam ji, Happy Birthday! You are not 90, you are 90 times more energetic than today’s heroes! God bless you with many more years of health and happiness. Love, Thalaiva.”
Fans have turned the hashtag #DharmendraAt90 and #HappyBirthdayHeMan into worldwide trends, sharing clips of his iconic scenes – whether it’s the drunken “Yeh dosti” with Big B, the romantic “Main jat yamla pagla deewana,” or the action-packed entry in Dharam Veer.
As Dharmendra blew out the candles on his 90th birthday cake surrounded by family, the entire nation joined in spirit to celebrate a man who has given Indian cinema some of its most unforgettable moments for over six decades.
