Telangana minister Konda Surekha issued an apology over her statement on Tollywood stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya’s divorce after receiving backlash. She posted on her X handle, “My comments are meant to question a leader’s belittling of women and not to hurt your @Samanthaprabhu2 sentiments.
On Wednesday, during an interaction with the media, Surekha blamed Bharat Rashtra Samiti Chief KT Rama Rao for Samantha and Chaitanya’s divorce. During his reign, KTR used to tap the phones of several actresses and blackmail them, and Samantha was one of them. This is the matter that led to her divorce from Naga Chaitanya.
Soon after her comments, there was an uproar on social media; personalities from different fraternities came in support of the divorce duo and slammed the Congress leader for highlighting one’s personal matter for political gain.
Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu fired back at Surekha and posted on her Instagram, mentioning that her divorce was a mutual one and there was no political link to it. She expressed that to be a woman, to come out and work, to survive in a glamorous industry is not easy. It takes a lot of courage and strength. Konda Surekha Garu, I am proud of what this journey turned me into; please don’t trivialize it. She even wished that Konda realized that her words carry significant weight as a minister.
She proceeds, “My divorce is a personal matter, and I request that you refrain from speculating about it. Our choice to keep things private doesn’t invite misrepresentation. She even clarified that her divorce was mutual consent and amicable, with no political conspiracy involved.
Actor Naga Chaitanya, who has been silent on his split with Samantha, finally breaks his silence and puts forth his take on social media. “However, there have been various baseless and completely ridiculous rumors on the matter so far.” He finally clarified that the reason for remaining silent all this is out of deep respect for his former spouse as well as his family. Women deserve to be supported and respected. Taking advantage of and exploiting the personal life decisions of celebrities for the sake of media headlines is shameful,” he concludes.
Several actors like Nagarjuna, Jr. NTR, Khusbhu Sundar, Nani, Allu Arjun, and others have expressed their displeasure with Surekha’s controversial remark.
