The National Film Awards are awarded for artistic and technical excellence within the Indian film industry. Every year, a national panel that is appointed by the government selects the winners. The award ceremony is held in New Delhi, where the President of India presents the awards.
The 70th National Film Awards
It was announced on 16 August 2024 to honor the best films of 2022 in Indian cinema, presented by the National Film Development Corporation of India. The awards ceremony was originally slated to be held on 3 May 2023 but was postponed to October 2024 due to delays after the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, the ceremony was held on October 8 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. President Draupadi Murmu presented the awards to all the winners from the film industry.
Manoj Bajpayee won his fourth national award
Many known faces from the film industry were honored with the award. Veteran actor Manoj Bajpayee won his fourth national award, this time for his performance in the film Gulmohar. He received the National Award for the first time in 1999 for Best Actor in a Supporting Role category. He won his second national award for ‘Pinjar’ in the Special Jury Award (Feature Film) category, and in 2021, he received the third one. After receiving the award for ‘Gulmohar’, Manoj did not fail to express his gratitude and also thanked his co-stars and directors for the movie. He also thanked the audience for the immense love and support. He said that it is a big thing when such a movie makes it for the National Film Awards.

“Gulmohar” is a 2023 Indian drama film that revolves around themes of family, emotions, and the complexity of relationships. was released on March 3, 2023, on the streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar. It features Sharmila Tagore as Kusum Batra, Manoj Bajpayee as Arun Batra, Simran Rishi Bagga as Indu Batra, Suraj Sharma as Aditya Batra, Amol Palekar in a pivotal role that contributes to the family dynamic, and Kaveri Seth as Divya Batra as the main casts for the film. The movie “Gulmohar” is directed by Rahul V. Chittella, and he also produced the film with Vikesh Bhutani and Shujaat Saudagar.
Along with Manoj Bajpayee, many icons such as Mithun Chakraborty, who received the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, while AR Rahman won his seventh national award for Ponniyin Selvan I, which also took home the Best Film award.
