She said in an open interview that Bollywood and South Indian films had rather equal success percentages. Pannu clarified that audiences only witnessing their hits explains why South films are seen as more successful; flops can go unreported outside of their specific areas. “Neither sector has its share of hits and flops; it’s just that you don’t see the failures from a distance,” she remarked.

Pannu also spoke on the variations in movie-watching culture between the two areas. She said that moviegoing in the South was practically a religious practice where viewers showed a great passion for movies. This is not the case in the Hindi-speaking areas, where getting people to movies can be more difficult. For many in the South, movie watching is like a religious experience. Dealing with the organizational disparities between the two sectors, Pannu disproved the misconception that the South Indian film sector is more orderly and disciplined than Bollywood. When looking back on her early career, she said she worked in the South receiving just daily dialogue sheets and without bound scripts. This was a far different picture from her experience in Bollywood, where even improvisational filmmakers like David Dhawan had bound scripts. “When I started in Hindi films, even directors like David Dhawan gave me a complete script,” she said.

Pannu admitted that the film business is always changing even with her insights. She implied that the techniques she used might have evolved during her early career. Still, her observations provide a different viewpoint on the continuous argument over the merits and operations of several Indian cinema companies.
