Renowned for his performance as Roshan Singh Sodhi in “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah,” Gurucharan Singh finally broke his quiet on his unexplained absence earlier this year. Singh told a straight-forward interview that he started a spiritual trip in April and had no plans to go back home. Against rumors, he underlined that his disappearance was not a publicity act.
Singh revealed that, at a bad period in his life, he turned to spirituality—a habit he had been raised with by his parents. “I have always been spiritual; I went toward God when I was depressed. I set for a spiritual trip with no intention of returning. But God gave me a sign, and it led me back home,” he said to the Bombay Times.
Dealing with rumors, Singh said, “Many people believe I scheduled my absence for publicity, but that’s not true. If I wanted exposure, I could have conducted interviews to go over the outstanding debts resulting from my work on “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.” Though I could have, I did not use social media for that. I skipped any interviews even after returning home. I am now speaking up to help to clarify some of the things people are saying about me.
Singh vanished on April 22 and turned up 26 days later in New Delhi. He visited several Gurudwaras in Amritsar and Ludhiana over this time. Originally reported to the police, Singh’s absence was followed by questions by Delhi Police and a statement to a local court upon his return.
Singh also mentioned in the interview his wish to repay his financial debts and go back into the entertainment business. “I’m back and intend to work a lot. One by one, I too wish to pay off every loan and debt I have. I am ready to work hard; that can happen through my job. He said, “I have realised that I can keep on my spiritual path even while I am meeting other obligations in life.”
Singh became a popular person on the show because of his energetic depiction of Roshan Singh Sodhi, a man who clearly demonstrates his love for his wife. Public demand drove him off the stage in 2013, but he came back the next year. Still, he left once more in 2020 and Balwinder Singh Suri took his place.
This most recent disclosure from Singh clarifies his sudden disappearance and his future goals in both his personal and professional life.
